Frequently Asked Questions

What is a ‘normal’ testosterone level?

In healthy men, testosterone levels between 300 ng/dL and 1000 ng/dL are considered ‘normal’.  The brain produces hormones that stimulate testosterone production. These signals are intermittently released, and they in turn stimulate testosterone production. When levels of testosterone are in an acceptable range, the production of the signal hormones are slowed, which allows the testosterone levels to decrease.

Is low testosterone a natural part of the ageing process?

As men get older, testosterone levels decline naturally in a gradual manner. In some men, however, a more substantial decline can occur.

And in many men, the problem will start much earlier. In fact, 40% of men by age 45 will have hypogonadism (low T). If low T is impacting your quality of life, you will likely benefit from treatment.

What is the treatment for low testosterone levels?

There are a variety of options and the right answer will depend on each individual person, their levels, and the impact it is having on their life. Lifestyle modifications, over the counter supplements, prescription supplements, testosterone injections, patches, or oral medications are just some of the options available.

Is treatment safe?

Like any medical treatment, there can be side effects. This is why patients are screened and evaluated for which type of therapy will work the best for them. We follow you closely to minimize any harm and maximize the benefit. At Gemini Urgent Care we will treat you like an individual because that is what you are. There is no single box that you can place all patients with low T levels into. With routine follow-ups, side effects can generally be prevented.

What if I plan to have children?

Testosterone replacement therapy will suppress natural testosterone production, so if you are planning to have children, there are alternatives such as clomiphene and HCG, which promote a more natural testosterone production and may actually improve your sperm count and ability to father children.
